A sweeping overhaul initiated three years ago at Sikar railway station in Rajasthan's Shekhawati region is now visible on the ground. Taken up under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with an estimated budget of nearly 18 crore rupees, between 70 and 80 percent of the scheduled development work has already been concluded. The initiative pairs essential modern amenities with the distinct traditional art and architecture of Shekhawati, noticeably elevating ticketing ease, circulation spaces, passenger waiting zones, and real-time travel information across the entire junction.
Platform 4 Secondary Entrance Opens Direct Route for Coaching Hub
The operational rollout of a dedicated second entrance on the platform number 4 side represents a major breakthrough for daily commuters. Commuters traveling from Nawalgarh Road, Piprali Road, Radhakishanpura, and the adjoining coaching student corridor no longer need to navigate congested streets to reach the primary terminal building. A brand-new entry edifice has been constructed on this side to handle passenger intake smoothly. To eliminate queues for unreserved travel, automatic ticket vending machines have been installed here, enabling passengers to purchase tickets swiftly via digital and online payment channels.
High-Tech Information Networks, Guidance Displays and LED Upgrades
Passenger information systems across the complex have undergone an extensive technological upgrade. High-visibility digital display boards now guide passengers through the circulating areas, while electronic coach positioning displays mounted along platforms inform commuters of their exact coach stoppage points before trains pull in. Clear directional signage boards have been installed throughout the facility to assist passenger movement. Furthermore, a modernized public address audio system and comprehensive power-saving LED illumination now cover all concourses and platform walkways.
Preserving Shekhawati Heritage Alongside Structural Additions
Planners have embedded the cultural identity of Sikar into the physical profile of the station. The primary entrance facade has been reconstructed with architectural elements that echo the celebrated fresco and masonry heritage of Shekhawati. Alongside structural aesthetics, operational facilities have expanded to include a relocated parcel office, demarcated parking zones, and newly refurbished waiting halls. Platform canopy roofing has also been widened significantly to shield waiting commuters from extreme heat, direct sunlight, and monsoon downpours.
Lifts, New Foot Overbridge and Executive Lounges Due by January
Several vital infrastructure components that passengers have long anticipated are targeted for commissioning by January. Elevators are currently being fitted along platforms to ensure effortless barrier-free access for elderly travelers, passengers with disabilities, and families carrying heavy luggage. Construction continues on a wide new foot overbridge and dedicated subway to facilitate seamless transfers between platforms. The final stages of construction also encompass an air-conditioned executive lounge, expanded waiting halls, and completely revamped sanitary facilities.
Circulation Redesign and Platform Stalls for Regional Crafts
Beyond the core platforms, civic planners are streamlining station access through a revised circulating zone and structured traffic plan aimed at resolving congestion outside the gates. Resurfacing efforts are also underway to make all platform ground surfaces even, durable, and clean. Under the One Station One Product initiative, dedicated retail kiosks will be set up within the complex to showcase Shekhawati's renowned tie-dye bandhej textiles, native handicrafts, and specialty goods, delivering direct commercial visibility to regional artisans.
