A medical team at the PBM Trauma Centre in Bikaner achieved a major clinical milestone by salvaging the leg of a 40-year-old man who sustained critical injuries in a road collision. The patient had a triangular iron rod measuring 28 inches long and roughly 4 centimetres wide driven deep into the lateral side of his left knee. Operating with high precision to prevent permanent nerve or arterial damage, doctors concluded a delicate two-hour surgery that left the limb intact and fully functional.
Pappi Khan Brought to Emergency Ward After Highway Accident
The victim, identified as 40-year-old Pappi Khan from 12 MLD in the Gharsana area, met with a severe road accident on Thursday. The impact forced a heavy triangular iron rod through the lateral aspect of his left knee joint. He was rushed directly to the emergency unit of PBM Trauma Centre in critical distress. On arrival, medical staff noted extensive swelling, deformity of the joint, and active bleeding, although the patient remained conscious throughout the initial evaluation.
Vascular Specialists Called In to Guard Vital Nerves
Dr. BL Khajotia, Director of the PBM Trauma Centre and Head of the Orthopaedics Department, assessed the emergency and initiated immediate clinical preparations. Because the metallic rod was roughly 4 centimetres wide, any misstep during extraction posed a catastrophic threat to surrounding blood vessels, ligaments, and nerve pathways. To mitigate vascular risks, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dr. Sarvesh was immediately brought onto the operative team to manage critical vessel exposure.
Two-Hour Emergency Procedure Successfully Frees the Joint
Before entering surgery, clinicians thoroughly examined the knee, analyzing bone integrity, ligament stability, and circulatory flow. The patient was moved to the emergency operating theatre at approximately 8:30 pm. Working under surgical precision, the multi-departmental team extracted the 28-inch triangular metal rod without rupturing adjacent critical tissue. Following the removal, surgeons inspected internal tissues, administered targeted medical treatment, and completed thorough wound dressings.
Patient Stable with Full Nerve Function Retained
Attending physicians confirmed that the patient remains stable post-surgery, with the knee joint secured and all peripheral nerves functioning normally. The complex operation was spearheaded by Dr. BL Khajotia and CVTS surgeon Dr. Sarvesh, alongside team members Dr. Vikrant, Dr. Kamal, and Dr. Rajendra Meena. Anaesthesia support was delivered by Dr. Harshita and Dr. Aneesh, whose rapid response ensured the successful preservation of the patient's limb.
