A significant procedural development has unfolded in Rajasthan's high-profile Rs 2 crore corruption investigation. Suspended Special Operations Group Additional Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Soni and middleman Sajjan Singh appeared before the NI Act Court-4 in Udaipur, where both individuals formally declined to provide their voice samples. The refusal occurred when a Forensic Science Laboratory team sought the samples inside the courtroom to verify their voices against incriminating audio recordings collected by the Anti Corruption Bureau.
Audio Tapes and the Push for Forensic Corroboration
Inquiries conducted by the Anti Corruption Bureau revealed that multiple phone calls had taken place between the accused parties and the complainant while negotiating the illicit payment. Investigators had already captured audio recordings documenting these conversations to build their case. Securing official voice samples from suspended ASP Mukesh Soni and middleman Sajjan Singh was viewed as a crucial step toward establishing undeniable courtroom evidence and confirming the authenticity of the recorded exchanges. The complainant in the matter, Niranjan Mogra, had already provided his voice sample to ACB officials during earlier proceedings.
Reader Jaswant Singh Rao Evades Arrest for 18 Days
Detailing the progress of the probe, investigating officer and ACB Additional SP Mahaveer Singh stated that search operations remain underway to uncover every layer of the conspiracy. Jaswant Singh Rao, a reader assigned to the SOG office, has been on the run for the past 18 days. Dedicated teams from the police and the anti-corruption agency have conducted multiple raids across his residence and suspected hideouts, yet he continues to evade custody. Investigative authorities maintain that capturing reader Jaswant is critical, as his interrogation is expected to disclose further details regarding the broader mechanics of the payoff scheme.
Plot Scandal Involving 272 Properties at the Core of the Deal
The bribery scandal originates from an inquiry into land mafia activities involving an alleged fraud over 272 property plots in Udaipur. The SOG had been probing the transaction, and the massive Rs 2 crore bribe was allegedly solicited to shut down the file, submit a final report, and release seized case property along with confiscated official documents. The ACB initially set a trap that caught middleman Sajjan Singh in the act, directly linking the transaction to ASP Mukesh Soni. Acting on those findings, anti-graft investigators subsequently arrested Mukesh Soni from his residence located in Balotra.
