Amidst the ongoing political heat surrounding the panchayat elections in Rajasthan, senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot has raised serious questions over the functioning of the Bhajanlal administration. Criticizing the current governance, Pilot stated that the administration is in a dismal shape and has completely lost the confidence of the general public. To substantiate his claims, he pointed out specific instances highlighting the widening gap between the government's tall claims and the ground realities.
The Significance of a Minister Son Running as an Independent
Speaking at an event in Jaipur on October 15, Pilot emphasized that deep resentment prevails among the public regarding the state government. Without directly taking names, he cited the example of Rajasthan UDH Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra, who hails from the Sikar district and represents the Sikar Shrimadhopur assembly constituency. Notably, his son Durgasingh Kharra recently filed his nomination as an independent candidate for the local panchayat committee elections. Pilot remarked that when a cabinet minister's own family member lacks the confidence to secure a victory under the ruling party's symbol, it clearly measures the extent of public disillusionment.
Internal Party Friction and Misuse of Administrative Machinery
Expanding on his critique, Pilot noted that the failure does not rest solely with the Chief Minister, as severe infighting and factionalism plague the ruling party. Regarding the panchayat polls, he maintained that the Congress party remains fully active on the ground. He alleged that the administration initially delayed the panchayat elections through deliberate excuses and only proceeded after facing strict rebukes from the judiciary. Furthermore, during urban body elections, the government allegedly leveraged all resources and pressured the police and administration to misuse governmental authority.
Youth Discontent and Lack of Rural Development
Pilot further accused the government of carrying out arbitrary delimitation exercises. He pointed out that while narrative claims suggested dominant BJP strength in urban centers, the actual vote share difference remained under one percent, which is significant considering the extensive misuse of state power. Pilot claimed that rural populations, particularly the youth, harbor deep anger toward the government. Historically, Congress has traditionally held the advantage in rural panchayat contests. However, rural areas currently suffer from a severe lack of development, and the people of Rajasthan are closely observing the broader political climate across the nation.
