A horrific traffic accident on the Jaipur-Kota National Highway in Tonk district of Rajasthan resulted in the death of a 65-year-old man. The incident took place near the Banthali bypass under the Deoni police station jurisdiction when a high-speed heavy trolley vehicle struck a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. Following the violent head-on collision, the motorcycle became lodged in the front section of the trolley. Rather than applying the brakes, the driver accelerated, dragging the elderly rider along with his vehicle for nearly 200 meters on the road, causing him to suffer fatal injuries on the spot.
Returning Home After Attending Last Rites
The victim has been identified as 65-year-old Gopilal. According to available details, Gopilal had gone to attend the funeral ceremony of his brother-in-law, who had recently passed away. After finishing all the customary rituals and paying his final respects, he was travelling back to his residence on his two-wheeler. His family members were expecting his return, but the sudden tragic crash transformed their grief into utter devastation before he could reach home.
Driver Accelerated Instead of Stopping
The calamity unfolded when the speeding trolley, arriving from the direction of Tonk, lost control near the Banthali bypass. It crashed directly into Gopilal's oncoming motorcycle with massive force. The impact wedged the motorcycle tightly under the front chassis of the heavy vehicle. Eyewitnesses present at the scene reported that instead of bringing the vehicle to an immediate halt after the collision, the trolley driver pressed the accelerator and sped forward. He dragged Gopilal and his trapped motorcycle along the asphalt for almost 200 meters, leaving bystanders horrified by the scene.
Fleeing Under Cover of Darkness and Police Probe
Following the horrific ordeal, the driver abandoned the vehicle on the highway and took advantage of the surrounding darkness to flee the scene before onlookers could intervene. Upon receiving word of the incident, a team from the Deoni police station rushed to the spot. Officers undertook strenuous effort to disentangle the crushed motorcycle from beneath the trolley. Police subsequently impounded both the damaged two-wheeler and the trolley vehicle.
The body of the deceased was transported to the mortuary of a nearby local hospital, where post-mortem procedures are being conducted. Deoni police have registered an official case and initiated a thorough investigation. Authorities are currently reviewing footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed along the bypass and nearby routes to track down and apprehend the fleeing driver.
