A woman died within hours of giving birth at the district hospital in Dholpur, Rajasthan, triggering angry protests from her family. Relatives carried her body straight to the collectorate and staged a sit-in outside the complex, accusing hospital doctors and staff of failing to act in time to save her life.
Who was the victim, and what the family alleges
The deceased was identified as Sapna (30), a resident of Gadarpura village in the Bari subdivision and wife of Aachhelal. Her health had reportedly been fragile even before she went into labour. As news of her death spread, relatives and villagers grew furious and squarely blamed the hospital administration for negligence. The angry family placed her body at the gate of the collectorate and demanded strict action against those responsible.
A high-risk pregnancy and two hospital visits in two days
As the incident drew attention, District Collector Srinidhi B.T. stepped in personally to clarify the sequence of events. According to the collector, Sapna's pregnancy was classified as high-risk and pre-mature, conditions that carry heightened danger. When the family first brought her to the hospital on Monday, she was sent back home without a delivery being performed. Her condition worsened, and on Tuesday she was readmitted in a critical state, where she gave birth to a baby girl. The relief was short-lived: soon after delivery she developed sudden, severe chest pain and her condition deteriorated rapidly. Doctors gave her first aid and referred her to a higher-level hospital, but she died on the way there.
Police step in, collector promises a probe
As the commotion and sloganeering outside the collectorate intensified, police reached the spot quickly. Officers spoke with the family to calm the situation and took custody of the body, sending it back to the mortuary at the district hospital for a fresh post-mortem. Collector Srinidhi B.T. assured that the entire matter would be investigated impartially. She indicated that the conduct of the ambulance driver and a private nursing home also appears suspicious and will be examined closely. The collector also made clear that staging a protest with a body at a sensitive premises like the collectorate amounts to a separate violation, for which appropriate legal action will follow.
