Addressing this long-standing personal care problem, technology manufacturer Dyson has unveiled its innovative CameraJet toothbrush. Designed to transform oral sanitation, this smart device utilizes an integrated macro camera to detect tight interdental spaces and automatically direct a targeted spray of mouthwash exactly where needed. The company spent roughly six years of intensive research and development to engineer this new dental care system.
Precision Targeting and Smart Liquid Delivery
The centerpiece of the Dyson CameraJet is its built-in 100,000-pixel macro camera, which captures and analyzes 28 live images every second. Powered by Dyson proprietary Gap Optical Targeting technology alongside machine learning models, the camera continuously identifies, tracks, and maps the exact geometry of spaces between teeth. Upon locating an interdental gap, the system fires a precise jet of mouthwash in less than 100 milliseconds. Building this computer vision system required writing over 16 million lines of code and training the machine learning algorithm on a dataset exceeding 4.7 lakh dental images.
Cone-Shaped Spray and Anti-Gravity Tank Architecture
Unlike conventional water flossers that rely on high-pressure, needle-thin liquid streams, the CameraJet introduces a broader cone-shaped fluid jet. According to Dyson, this expanded spray pattern effectively dislodges plaque and food particles at lower operating pressures, making the cleaning process considerably gentler on gums and tooth enamel. To support versatile brushing angles, the toothbrush features an integrated 12.5ml anti-gravity reservoir. This specially engineered tank ensures a smooth, uniform liquid output whether the toothbrush is held upright, tilted at an angle, or positioned nearly horizontally.
Dual-Bristle Architecture and External Testing Claims
The device incorporates a specialized dual-bristle head designed to combine surface stain removal with gentle gum care. The inner section of the brush head contains slightly firmer bristles tasked with scrubbing away stubborn surface discoloration, while softer outer bristles sweep along the sensitive gumline. In external lab testing, Dyson reports that the CameraJet removed up to 69 percent more plaque from hard-to-reach areas compared to conventional premium electric toothbrushes available on the market.
App Integration and Strict User Privacy Standards
For a connected user experience, the toothbrush links to the MyDyson smartphone app using built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth hardware. The companion application provides real-time visual feedback, guided cleaning routines, coverage mapping, and customized hygiene insights. Addressing privacy concerns regarding an optical camera used in personal spaces, Dyson clarified that raw images captured by the sensor are processed instantly and are never recorded or stored on the device or uploaded to cloud servers. The Dyson Dental System is currently rolling out in select international markets, with pricing and launch timing for India set to be announced at a later date.
