Automatic Opt-In and Privacy Implications
This feature represents a major privacy issue for every user with a public Instagram profile, as Meta has automatically enrolled all public accounts into this system without explicit consent. If you utilize Meta AI features on Instagram, you are essentially participating in this data usage model. In a practical test, a request to generate an image of two friends enjoying coffee was processed in under a minute. The resulting image was synthesized using recent photos from both individuals' profiles, some of which were years old, highlighting how easily the system can leverage existing digital footprints.
How to Disable Data Sharing for AI
Users with private Instagram profiles face fewer risks, though they remain vulnerable to associates using their photos for unauthorized AI generation. If your account is public, you must take manual action to stop Meta from utilizing your profile data for its AI and Reels generation features.
To disable this, launch the Instagram app on your iPhone, navigate to your Profile, and tap the three-lined Menu button located in the top-right corner.
