Thieves in Nighties and Ambulance Loot State Bank ATM in Telangana

In Kamareddy district of Telangana, thieves used an ambulance and wore women's nightdresses to break into an SBI ATM and steal cash. Police are investigating the incident and looking for links to previous similar robberies in the state.

A bizarre and meticulously planned heist in Telangana has left local law enforcement stunned by the sheer audacity of the criminals. In Kamareddy district, a gang of unidentified thieves adopted a bizarre modus operandi that mirrors a fictional web series script, arriving in an ambulance to target a State Bank of India ATM and cutting open the machine to make away with the cash. What added a surreal layer to the crime was the attire of the culprits, who wore women's nightdresses and face masks to completely conceal their identities during the early hours of Sunday, 11 October.

The Ambulance Ruse and Midnight Operation

The entire episode unfolded between 1:00 AM and 1:30 AM, executed with a level of cunning designed to avert suspicion. By utilizing an ambulance, the perpetrators ensured that any passing citizen or patrolling unit would assume it was a genuine medical emergency vehicle rather than a mobile unit for a robbery. Once at the target, the gang deployed heavy cutting equipment to mangle the ATM cabinet and extract the stored currency before vanishing into the night. The following morning, locals discovered the wrecked machine and immediately alerted the authorities.

Police Investigation and Prior Incidents

Law enforcement officials rushed to the crime scene alongside forensic experts to gather vital evidence and fingerprint traces. As of yet, the exact financial loss remains uncalculated as bank representatives are auditing the machine's remaining balances and transaction logs. Investigators are also thoroughly checking whether the ambulance used in the crime was a legitimate emergency vehicle or a stolen or forged setup meant to bypass police checkpoints.

Notably, this is not an isolated occurrence in the region. Just weeks prior on 19 September, two State Bank of India ATMs located in the Durshed and Thimmapur areas on the outskirts of Karimnagar were targeted in an identical fashion. Those earlier crimes also involved gas cutters and perpetrators dressed in women's clothing to dodge surveillance cameras. Authorities are currently cross-referencing surveillance footage and clues from previous cases to track down the elusive gang.
