The disturbance took place in the midst of Technofora 2026, an annual departmental festival organised by students of the Electronics and Instrumentation wing between September 18 and September 20. The multi-day schedule also featured an entertainment segment by stand-up comic Rajat Sood. While Professor Patel was addressing the gathering with a microphone in hand, a voice from the seating area shouted out a famous humorous line from the Bollywood comedy Golmaal 3, telling the speaker to hurry up because they had to leave for Panvel the next morning.

The sarcastic interruption instantly infuriated the department chair. Halting his address, Dr. Patel pointed out the heckler and ordered him to step up to the podium.
