A key urban water body in Tripura's capital has received a comprehensive makeover aimed at boosting community recreation and environmental preservation. On Saturday, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the development and beautification project for the pond situated at Ujan Abhoynagar Bazar in Agartala, creating an accessible leisure spot alongside the bustling marketplace.
Comprehensive Upgrades Under AMRUT 2.0
The extensive transformation of the water body was executed under the Central government's AMRUT 2.0 scheme. As part of this initiative, the surrounding area has been paved to provide clean access paths, accompanied by a dedicated walking track tailored for daily fitness enthusiasts. The site now features modern lighting installations, comfortable public seating arrangements, and thoughtfully landscaped green patches that enhance the visual appeal of the neighborhood.
These amenities are intended to serve both regular morning walkers and evening shoppers visiting Ujan Abhoynagar Bazar, offering a serene environment for recreation amidst a commercial hub.
Balancing Infrastructure Growth with Ecological Health
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that the state administration is actively working to make Agartala and other towns modern, environmentally sustainable, and visually pleasant. He noted that urban planning must look beyond the construction of concrete buildings and road networks, placing equal priority on residents' overall well-being, ecological balance, and vibrant public open spaces.
Expressing appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary leadership, Saha remarked that coordinated work between the Central and state governments has opened a new chapter in Tripura's urban growth and connectivity. He also urged local citizens to take collective ownership of civic infrastructure and ensure the newly renovated surroundings remain clean and well-maintained over time.
Civic Leaders and Officials Attend Opening
The launch event saw the participation of several senior municipal and state dignitaries, including Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, AMC Commissioner Saju Waheed, and Urban Development Department Secretary Milind Ramteke. They were accompanied by CEO GS Nayak, along with AMC councillors, corporators, and active party karyakartas who gathered to inspect the upgraded facilities.
