A family in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district spent a terrifying morning after eighteen venomous baby cobras turned up one after another inside and outside their home, sending everyone rushing out of the house and prompting an urgent call to a snake rescuer.
A cobra in the bathroom, then more all over the house
The incident took place in Naare Mahripur village under the Itiyathok Kotwali police station area of Gonda district. Local resident Mohammad Irfan had woken up and stepped out to bathe. When he returned inside afterward, he spotted two baby cobras sitting in the house. Startled, he rushed back outside, only to find three more baby cobras waiting there. As the family searched the rest of the house, more snakes kept turning up in different corners, leaving everyone panicked and forcing the entire household out onto the street.
Four hours of careful work to clear the house
The family lost no time in alerting snake catcher Arun Goswami, also known locally as Baba. About four hours after being informed, Goswami reached the spot with his team and began a painstaking rescue operation. Working through the house section by section, the team spent hours safely pulling out a total of eighteen baby cobras without harming a single snake or person. Once the rescue was complete, all eighteen were released into a nearby forest.
Snake catcher's appeal to residents
Arun Goswami said all eighteen baby cobras had been rescued unharmed and released safely into the forest. He appealed to people not to panic or attempt to kill snakes if they spot one at home, and instead to immediately inform a trained snake catcher or the forest department. He said trying to kill a snake risks harming both the animal and the person, while a timely call can keep both safe.
Village talked about it all day as family finally relaxes
News that eighteen baby cobras had emerged from a single home spread quickly, and the incident remained the talk of the village through the day, with residents gathering to watch the rescue operation unfold. Once every snake had been safely removed and released into the forest, Mohammad Irfan and his family finally breathed easy. After hours spent in fear, the family was relieved to know their home no longer held any hidden danger.
