A horrifying incident unfolded outside the Sultanpur Collectorate in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday evening, where a 23-year-old pharmacy student was brutally run over by a car after attempting to confront a persistent stalker. The young woman, currently enrolled in the third year of her B.Pharma course, sustained life-threatening injuries and is receiving emergency care at the Government Medical College. The shocking daylight assault has sparked widespread outrage across the district.
Screams for Help Outside Sultanpur Collectorate
The violent encounter occurred around 5:30 pm near the bus stop located right opposite the Collectorate building, within the jurisdiction of the Kotwali police station. The student was travelling back home after finishing her daily classes at college. According to people present at the spot, the woman was seen chasing after a moving car while frantically screaming for passersby to stop and catch the motorist.
Witness accounts describe how the car first struck her scooter during the pursuit. Refusing to let the driver flee, the student stepped off her two-wheeler and positioned herself directly in front of the vehicle, climbing onto the bonnet to block its passage. Instead of stopping, the motorist abruptly threw the vehicle into reverse. The violent backward jerk threw the woman onto the tarmac, and before she could get back up, the driver surged forward and drove directly over her body.
Suspect Flees Toward Pant Stadium
The horrifying sight triggered widespread panic among commuters and local shopkeepers. Capitalising on the ensuing chaos, the motorist sped away from the crime scene, racing his vehicle toward Pant Stadium. Pedestrians rushed to the aid of the heavily bleeding victim, moving her to the side of the road before alerting her family about the horrific crash.
Upon receiving the distressing phone call, the student's brother rushed to the location and found his sister severely wounded and unconscious. With the assistance of helpful bystanders, he placed her onto a scooter and transported her directly to the Government Medical College emergency ward. Attending doctors confirmed that she suffered extensive trauma to her head, hands, and legs, describing her overall condition as extremely critical.
Months of Sustained Harassment and Stalking
Family members have voiced deep anguish, revealing that the attack was the culmination of prolonged harassment. The victim's cousin alleged that a youth named Ajeet Singh, a resident of Narayanpur within the Kotwali Nagar area, had been continuously stalking and harassing her for the past 2 to 3 months. According to relatives, the suspect began following her movements after spotting her near her college campus and had been tailing her commute ever since.
Police Reviewing Surveillance Cameras Along the Escape Route
Police officers arrived at the crime scene shortly after receiving reports of the hit-and-run and initiated an inquiry into the sequence of events. Investigating officers are actively gathering and examining surveillance footage from CCTV cameras installed near the Collectorate, the bus stop, and intersections leading toward the stadium. Law enforcement officials stated that teams have been formed to track down the vehicle and arrest Ajeet Singh as the investigation progresses.
