A desire to fund a girlfriend's expensive lifestyle and indulge in merry-making pushed two real brothers into the dark world of crime in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Seeking quick money, the duo booked an auto-rickshaw under the guise of ordinary passengers before turning on the driver in a desolate area. After assaulting him brutally, they left him for dead on the roadside and fled with the vehicle. Local law enforcement has successfully tracked down and arrested both siblings, though their third accomplice is still absconding.
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Bhojipura police station area. According to police records, the arrested accused have been identified as Vishal and Bharat Ratna. Their associate, Shivam, who was actively involved in the conspiracy, remains outside police custody. During initial interrogations, the accused allegedly confessed that they had plotted the auto heist solely to generate funds for girlfriend-related expenses and leisure.
How the Brutal Plot Unfolded on the Road
Police reports state that on the night of August 27, all three accused arrived at the city railway station. There, they hired an auto driver named Saggan to take them to Jadopur for a finalized fare of 500 rupees. The journey began normally, but as the vehicle advanced, the passengers instructed the driver to take an alternate route. Upon reaching a secluded stretch, the men seated in the rear suddenly launched an assault.
The attackers struck the driver on the head with a heavy iron-like object. Following the blunt trauma, they tightened a traditional cotton scarf or gamchha around his neck to strangle him. Left severely injured and collapsing onto the asphalt, the driver was abandoned on the spot as the culprits sped away with his livelihood.
Police Trap and Recovery of Firearms
Escaping with the stolen auto, the perpetrators drove directly to Semikhera, where they concealed the vehicle inside their respective shops to evade immediate detection by law enforcement. Investigators revealed that in the early hours of Sunday, the two brothers were preparing to transport the auto to an entirely different location to permanently hide it. Acting on a tip-off regarding their movement, police set up a strategic barricade near a petrol pump on the Semikhera-Barour road.
Both brothers were intercepted and apprehended at the scene. Alongside the recovery of the stolen auto-rickshaw, officers seized one illegal country-made pistol and three live cartridges from their possession, pointing to the severity of the threat they posed.
Search for the Remaining Accomplice
Authorities are presently conducting raids across various suspected locations to trace and capture the absconding suspect, Shivam. Meanwhile, the wounded auto driver received necessary medical treatment for his injuries. Police officials stated that further legal proceedings are underway based on the disclosures made by the detained suspects during interrogation.
