Two brothers accused of sexually assaulting and brutally assaulting a minor girl in the Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh were arrested following an armed police encounter. The suspects opened fire on a police team when surrounded in a forested area, prompting law enforcement personnel to return fire in self-defence. Both men suffered gunshot wounds to their legs during the exchange and were transported to a medical facility for treatment. Authorities identified the arrested individuals as Jagat and Rishi. Police teams also seized two illegal country-made pistols, live ammunition, and a motorcycle used during their attempted escape.
Brutal assault on minor in Khergarh fields
The harrowing incident unfolded within the jurisdiction of the Khergarh police station. On Saturday evening, a minor girl had gone towards agricultural fields for defecation when she was cornered in an isolated spot. Taking advantage of the desolate surroundings, the two brothers sexually assaulted her. To silence resistance and destroy potential evidence, the attackers struck her repeatedly with wooden sticks. The girl was left bloodied and critically injured in the field while the assailants fled the scene. Family members later discovered her in an unconscious state, immediately alerting the local police authorities.
Nighttime manhunt and exchange of fire
The brutality of the assault triggered immediate outrage and prompt mobilization across the district police hierarchy. Officers registered a criminal case and deployed multiple search teams to trace the absconding suspects. During the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, investigators received actionable intelligence indicating that the duo was hiding in the forested terrain of the Khergarh area, preparing to flee the region. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, police units moved in and cordoned off the entire perimeter.
Upon realizing that their escape routes were blocked, the suspects opened direct fire on the pursuing police party. Officers took defensive positions and returned fire, striking both Jagat and Rishi in the legs. The injuries immobilized the suspects, allowing law enforcement officers to overpower and disarm them without further casualties. Both were taken into custody and rushed to a local hospital under armed guard.
Weapons seized as legal proceedings move forward
From the encounter site, police recovered two illicit firearms, spent and live cartridges, along with the motorcycle the suspects had planned to use for their getaway. Hospital authorities are administering treatment to the injured accused while they remain under strict police surveillance. Senior officials stated that stringent legal measures are being pursued against both perpetrators, and investigators are compiling evidence to ensure rapid and effective prosecution in court.
