Torrential rains have significantly impacted normal life in both Noida and Ghaziabad, regions adjacent to Delhi. In Noida, intermittent rain has been falling since Tuesday, resulting in water accumulation on several key roads. While the wet weather has provided much-needed relief to residents from the oppressive humidity and extreme heat, leading to a drop in maximum temperatures, the situation in Ghaziabad remains more critical as heavy downpours have left various residential colonies completely submerged.

School Closures and Infrastructure Damage

Due to the severe weather conditions in Ghaziabad, District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar has officially declared a holiday for all schools across all educational boards. This administrative decision was made to prioritize the safety and convenience of both students and parents. The impact of the relentless rainfall has also disrupted local infrastructure. Specifically, in Ward 39 of Ghaziabad, a large tree fell near the Patanjali store on Gulmohar Road along Rakesh Marg, which has effectively cut off electricity supply and blocked the passage for commuters in the area.

Traffic Gridlock and Civic Impact

The downpour, which began late at night in Ghaziabad, has brought the city's movement to a standstill. Major roads and numerous residential areas have turned into water-filled zones. Consequently, traffic has slowed to a crawl, creating massive traffic snarls in several locations as vehicles struggle to navigate through the inundated streets. The daily life of the common man has been clearly affected by these circumstances. The Meteorological Department had previously issued an alert for heavy rainfall, and the current situation serves as a direct result of that forecast. Local authorities are actively monitoring the unfolding situation and have advised citizens to avoid stepping out of their homes unless absolutely necessary.

What this means for you

Across India: Avoid non-essential travel in heavy rain-affected areas and stay away from waterlogged streets.

In Ghaziabad: Schools have been closed for all boards, so parents should ensure children stay home and keep monitoring local government updates.
