According to Dr. DK Yadav, institutes successfully producing breeder seeds will receive a grant of Rs 2.5 lakh, while those breeding high-performing hybrid varieties will be awarded Rs 5 lakh.

Additionally, the initiative incorporates plans to establish 'Centers of Excellence' across two to three designated locations nationwide. Historical agricultural datasets maintained by various institutes will also be updated and digitized, enabling scientists to leverage historical research data effectively when breeding new crop varieties.

Historical statistics released by IIPR indicate that domestic pulse output experienced noticeable shifts in recent years. India produced 273.02 lakh tonnes of pulses during 2021-22, which dipped to 260.58 lakh tonnes in 2022-23 and further dropped to 242.26 lakh tonnes in 2023-24.

However, output registered a strong recovery subsequently. Production rose to 256.83 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 and reached 274.09 lakh tonnes in 2025-26.
