A 42-year-old woman was killed following an altercation inside an apartment near Rajendra Nagar crossing in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The deceased has been identified as Geeta Bhagchandani, who was found dead inside a flat at Vision Apartment. Her 17-year-old minor son has been accused of the murder and was taken into custody from the spot by law enforcement officials.
Dispute Over Medical Transition Procedure
According to police officials, the confrontation took place on Thursday inside the flat over the juvenile's desire to undergo gender-affirming surgery. The minor had been living as a woman and wanted to undergo surgical transition to align with their gender identity. This issue had reportedly become a persistent source of friction and arguments within the household.
Initial investigation indicates that the conflict escalated when the mother tried to counsel the teenager against undergoing the surgical procedure immediately. She was advising the adolescent to seek medical evaluation and psychological counseling first rather than opting directly for surgery. During this conversation, the teenager attacked the woman with an iron wrench, inflicting fatal injuries to her head. The severe blunt force trauma resulted in her death on the spot.
Teen Remained at Scene and Alerted Police
Following the violent attack, the minor did not attempt to flee the residence. Instead, the teenager contacted the police to report the incident. A police team quickly arrived at the Vision Apartment flat, where they discovered the woman's body and found the teenager present at the location. Senior police officials, along with forensic personnel and field units, inspected the crime scene and seized key evidence, including the iron wrench used in the assault. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination as the investigation proceeds.
Investigation into Gender Dysphoria and Professional Counseling
Vivek Kumar Chaudhary, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Naka Hindola, stated that early findings suggest the minor may have been experiencing gender dysphoria, a condition involving profound psychological distress arising from a mismatch between biological sex and gender identity. Chaudhary stated that qualified medical professionals and mental health specialists will conduct psychological counseling for the teenager as part of the legal and investigative process. Police added that further forensic findings and detailed questioning are underway to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.
