A trivial altercation on the streets of Kanpur turned fatal when a 47-year-old man was attacked for objecting to public indecency. The victim, Amit Kumar, a resident of Naveen Nagar, was returning home after closing his shop on Saturday night when he encountered a group of men consuming alcohol near Om Crossing in the Kakadev police station jurisdiction. One of the individuals from the group began urinating openly on the roadside, prompting Kumar to intervene and ask him to stop.

Confrontation outside the shop

Amit Kumar operated a shop named Prem Adda in Kakadev. Around 11 pm on Saturday, as he headed back to his residence, he spotted the intoxicated youths causing a nuisance. His polite objection triggered an aggressive reaction, with the man refusing to budge and starting a verbal altercation. The argument quickly escalated into abusive language as the other companions of the primary accused joined in to confront Kumar over the matter.

According to the victim's son, Rudra Pratap Singh, the situation turned violent when the group surrounded his father. Bystanders who attempted to intervene and broker peace were threatened and driven away by the aggressive assailants. During the scuffle, the attackers picked up bricks and struck Kumar on the head multiple times. Suffering severe cranial trauma, he collapsed onto the pavement as the perpetrators fled the scene under the cover of darkness.

Locals who witnessed the aftermath immediately alerted the local police authorities and informed the victim's family. Relatives rushed to the spot and transferred Kumar to a nearby private clinic. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, medical staff transferred him to Anurag Hospital. He battled for his life for two days before his condition deteriorated sharply on Monday evening, leading to his tragic death during treatment.

Investigators secured crucial evidence in the form of CCTV footage retrieved from cameras installed near the crime scene. The video recording clearly shows four individuals physically assaulting Kumar while a crowd watches nearby. Police have taken the digital recordings into evidence and are utilizing them to establish the identities of the culprits and track down their whereabouts.

Family demands swift justice

Expressing deep frustration over the delay in arrests despite video evidence, the victim's family criticized the ongoing police response. They announced plans to meet the police commissioner to demand immediate and stringent action against all culprits involved. Kakadev police station in-charge Dharmendra Ram stated that an FIR was registered based on the family's complaint, and special teams are actively working to apprehend the suspects using the visual evidence.
