A massive, state-wide tree plantation drive is commencing in Uttar Pradesh today, July 12, 2026. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will officially inaugurate this significant environmental campaign from Gorakhpur. This initiative serves as more than just a government project; it represents a dedicated commitment to the ecological development and environmental preservation of the state. The campaign aims to plant a total of 350 million saplings across all regions of Uttar Pradesh, marking a major milestone in efforts to build a greener and more prosperous future for the state.
The 'One Tree in Mother's Name' Campaign
This year’s plantation event is organized under the theme 'One Tree in Mother's Name' (Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam). CM Yogi Adityanath shared his thoughts on his official X handle, describing tree planting as a divine duty—an act of service to the creation and a form of worship for humanity. He noted that this historic campaign involves the coordinated efforts of 26 different state departments. The day’s activities will include planting 'Triveni' saplings, establishing 'Vikas Vatikas' (Development Gardens), and distributing carbon credit certificates to farmers. Furthermore, the planting of Molsari trees will be a central highlight, aiming to turn nature conservation into a massive celebration of public participation.
Gratitude Toward Nature
Reflecting on the importance of the natural world, the Chief Minister stated that in Indian culture, protecting trees is not merely a formal duty but an expression of gratitude toward the planet that provides life-sustaining food, water, and oxygen. He emphasized that since we regard the earth as a mother and rivers as life-givers, planting trees is a way to express thanks for the life and energy we receive. Yogi urged the people of the state to participate in this grand event to contribute to the creation of a developed and prosperous Uttar Pradesh.
Call to Action for the Public
On July 11, the day before the launch, the Chief Minister released a message to the public, framing the drive as a responsibility toward future generations. He encouraged citizens to adopt Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'One Tree in Mother's Name' call as a core personal value. Yogi remarked that planting a sapling is an act of creation, while its conservation reflects our true culture. He highlighted that every tree planted by a citizen will provide shade and essential oxygen for generations to come. He has called upon the entire state to transform this green mission into a mass movement to ensure the realization of a greener, wealthier, and more developed Uttar Pradesh.
