Ragini, a six-and-a-half-year-old resident of Ranipur village in the Maniyar block of Ballia district, has captured widespread attention following a deeply emotional video about her leg condition that went viral on the internet. Following the wide reach of her story, assistance has begun pouring in from various quarters. The matter was taken into serious cognizance by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, prompting the district administration to step in swiftly and provide the young girl with a tricycle along with other essential aid. Efforts are now fully underway to address her long-standing health challenges.
As part of these medical initiatives, a dedicated team of doctors led by Dr. Anurag Singh, an experienced orthopaedic surgeon at the District Hospital Ballia, personally travelled to Ragini's home to conduct a thorough medical examination. Dr. Singh described Ragini as an exceptionally talented and resilient child. According to information provided by the child's mother, Ragini lost the use of her legs following an accident that occurred just a few months after her birth. Although her family previously took her to Varanasi for medical treatment, the lower half of her legs below the knees failed to regain mobility. With her story gaining widespread public attention, her daily struggles have begun to ease, and her aspirations are receiving a renewed lift as well-wishers from outside step forward to extend a helping hand.
Medical outlook and possibilities for recovery
Dr. Anurag Singh noted that due to her young age, the probability of Ragini recovering successfully is quite high. He explained that if an orthopaedic surgeon, a neurosurgeon, and a plastic surgeon coordinate their efforts and provide appropriate medical care alongside proper management, the child will likely be able to walk with support on her own legs. Young children possess a much higher growth rate and healing capacity compared to adults, which significantly boosts optimism for her recovery. The treatment process may involve surgical procedures, posture correction, and dedicated post-operative care.

Expressing his gratitude to the media personnel, Dr. Singh stated that journalists played a pivotal role in bringing the plight of a rural child to the forefront. He praised the efforts of the journalists of Ballia, noting that a continuous stream of assistance is flowing from all directions to help the child achieve her dreams. Ragini harbours a strong desire to become a medical doctor in the future so she can provide free healthcare services to the poor, ensuring that no one else has to endure similar suffering. During interactions, the young girl responds to questions promptly and without hesitation. Dr. Singh added that the government is paying close attention to the situation, emphasizing that whenever genuine needs are brought to the notice of the administration, the government remains fully committed to assisting those in need.
