Unrelenting rainfall over the past three days across Mahoba district has exposed severe infrastructural flaws, transforming the primary school premises in the Rajiv Nagar area of Kabrai into a massive waterlogged pond. Following heavy downpours, the entire school ground and its surroundings look strikingly similar to a water body. Navigating through this accumulated water to reach the classrooms has turned into a daily ordeal and a major safety hazard for young students attending the school.
Severe Waterlogging Paralyzes Primary School
Standing water now covers everything from the school entrance gate to the interior courtyard, making mobility extremely difficult for children. The prevailing waterlogging creates constant risks of slipping, falling, and other accidents, leaving parents deeply worried about the safety and well-being of their kids. The continuous downpour has virtually cut off normal access routes.
School principal Mohan Babu stated that this waterlogging issue is not occurring for the first time this year. Every single monsoon season, the school premises gets inundated with water. He claimed that despite informing concerned authorities multiple times regarding the urgent need for a proper drainage system, no permanent solution has been implemented to date. The uninterrupted rains have only worsened the current situation, dealing a severe blow to the students' academic routine.
Anganwadi Food Supplies Damaged by Floodwaters
The situation is equally alarming inside the Anganwadi center operating within the same school complex. Due to the rising water levels entering the facility, essential food supplies and nutritional rations meant for young children have started spoiling. This lapse has raised serious questions regarding both early childhood education and nutritional security in the area. Local residents pointed out that authorities should have cleared and repaired the drainage channels before the monsoon commenced to prevent this recurring crisis.
District Administration Responds to Flooded Schools
Addressing the crisis, District Basic Education Officer Anil Mishra stated that continuous heavy rains over the last 72 hours have triggered waterlogging reports from several schools situated in low-lying pockets of the district.
