An Independence Day celebration turned into a tragic incident at a private educational institute in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, when a structural overhang collapsed during the festivities. At Ala Hasnain Public School, students had gathered for cultural performances immediately following the flag hoisting ceremony. During the event, a concrete porch constructed over the school's main gate gave way under excessive weight, leading to the death of a six-year-old child and leaving two other students seriously injured.
Sequence of Events and Balcony Collapse
According to eyewitnesses, a large gathering of students and community members had assembled at the school premises to observe the National Flag hoisting and the subsequent cultural programs. Shortly after the flag was unfurled, several students climbed onto the elevated porch above the entrance gate to wave flags and watch the proceedings. The structure, unable to sustain the sudden load, abruptly gave way and crashed down.
At the moment of the collapse, several children were also standing directly underneath the porch. The sudden fall of heavy debris triggered chaos and widespread panic across the school grounds. Onsite bystanders quickly rushed to the spot, clearing the rubble by hand to rescue the trapped children from beneath the collapsed masonry.
Victim Identification and Medical Response
The six-year-old child who lost his life in the tragedy has been identified as Nizam, son of Naeem. Emergency responders and local citizens rushed him to a nearby government hospital, where attending doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. The tragic loss has plunged his family into intense grief and spread mourning throughout the local village.
The two other children injured in the collapse are currently receiving medical attention. They have been identified as 11-year-old Saif Ali, son of Sabun and a student of Class 7, along with 10-year-old Shaidana, son of Imran and a student of Class 5. Following initial stabilization at the local medical center, Station House Officer Sudhir Panwar stated that both injured students were transferred to the district hospital for advanced treatment.
CCTV Footage and Official Investigation
Security camera footage from the school premises captured the exact moment of the collapse, documenting the abrupt structural failure and the frantic emergency response that followed. Upon being alerted to the disaster, local administrative and police personnel, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Circle Officer (CO), and Station House Officer Sudhir Panwar, immediately reached the site to manage rescue operations.
