The young husband and wife, who had tied the knot just two months prior, were discovered inside a hundred-foot-deep gorge. This sudden and heart-wrenching loss has plunged two families into deep mourning and raised serious questions about the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
Discovery of the Bodies in Markundi Valley
The tragic discovery unfolded in the Chopan police station limits, specifically within the treacherous terrain of the Markundi valley. The local residents first noticed an extremely foul odour emanating from the depths of the steep hundred-foot gorge. Suspecting that something was amiss, they immediately contacted the local police administration. Upon receiving the information, a police team arrived at the scene and launched a recovery operation, eventually retrieving two severely decomposed bodies from the bottom of the rocky ravine.
Identification and the Last Days
The deceased individuals were identified as Rahul, a resident of the Bicchi locality under the Robertsganj Kotwali jurisdiction, and his wife Chanda, also known as Indravati, who hailed from Salkhan. Records show that the couple had solemnised their marriage on May 6 of this year. According to family members, the husband and wife had left their home four days prior to the discovery, intending to visit a nearby temple for worship. However, they never returned, and their sudden disappearance remained unexplained until their bodies were located. A motorcycle belonging to the couple was also found abandoned near the edge of the gorge. Due to the hot weather and the passage of several days since their demise, the bodies had decomposed significantly, prompting the police to send them for an immediate post-mortem examination.
Multiple Angles Under Investigation
The authorities are currently exploring all possible scenarios to determine whether this was a fatal road accident, a case of suicide, or if there is a more sinister criminal conspiracy behind their deaths. Since the motorcycle was recovered near the site, investigators are carefully analyzing the terrain and the condition of the vehicle. Both families are in complete disbelief, struggling to cope with the sudden loss of the young couple whose lives had only recently merged.

In Pilibhit district, a similar tragedy occurred in the Gajraula Kalan area when a speeding car lost control and plunged off the road into a deep ditch. That particular crash resulted in the immediate death of two brothers, identified as fifty-year-old Ruplal and thirty-two-year-old Shivkumar, while three other passengers sustained serious injuries. The victims were returning to their native village of Ajitpur Patpura from Jamuniya when the driver lost control. The timing of that accident, coming just before the festive season of Diwali, turned a period of celebration into immense grief for their household.
In another separate accident in the Etah region of Uttar Pradesh, a husband temporarily dozed off at the steering wheel, causing their family car to slide off the road into a ravine. This momentary lapse of concentration proved fatal for his wife, who lost her life, while their two young daughters suffered injuries. Furthermore, in Hardoi, a car carrying wedding guests overturned and fell into a roadside ditch, resulting in five deaths and six injuries. These recurring events highlight the persistent dangers on the roads and the devastating consequences of driver fatigue and traffic rule violations.
