A heartbreaking incident from the Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh has left a family shattered after a fatal electrocution in a field claimed the lives of an uncle and his nephew. The tragedy unfolded in Khalsa village, which falls under the Bahariya police station jurisdiction in the Ganganagar zone. It began when 29-year-old Kamlesh Kumar Yadav went to a field to pull out rice seedlings for planting. His 14-year-old nephew, Arpit Yadav, followed him to the same area shortly after. Tragically, Arpit accidentally touched the live electrical wires that had been installed around the perimeter of a neighboring cornfield to act as a barrier. When Kamlesh rushed to save his nephew, he too was caught in the current, leading to the immediate death of both individuals at the scene. Kamlesh Kumar, who had completed his BA, was actively preparing to pursue a career in the city, while Arpit Yadav was a student in class seven at Mizura. Following the incident, the police apprehended the accused, Nagendra Singh, and have initiated an investigation.
Death at the Scene
Details of the incident confirm that Kamlesh Kumar was performing routine farm work when his nephew approached the dangerous boundary of the adjacent cornfield. Upon hearing the boy's desperate cries, the uncle attempted a rescue but was also struck by the high-voltage current. The intensity of the electrocution resulted in both victims passing away instantly. Once local villagers were alerted to the situation, they took immediate steps to cut off the electricity supply to the fields before successfully recovering the bodies.
Public Outrage and Demands for Compensation
Following the discovery of the incident, Bahariya Station House Officer Manvendra Kumar Singh arrived at the location with a police contingent. A group of agitated villagers refused to allow the bodies to be moved, demanding that a case be registered against the owner of the cornfield. The station officer provided assurances to the bereaved family that a fair investigation would be conducted and appropriate action would be taken. The village is currently engulfed in grief and anger. Arpit Yadav’s father works a private job in Mumbai, and the boy was an only child. Kamlesh was the third of four brothers, and his father manages agricultural work at home. It was discovered that Nagendra Pratap Singh, the owner of the cornfield, had illegally grounded electric wires around the area to keep stray cattle away. After the deaths were confirmed, the entire family of the accused fled the premises. Aside from the police investigation and the detention of Nagendra Singh, relatives and villagers are now pressing for formal charges and financial compensation for the family of the deceased.
