Traveling to the popular hill station of Nainital is set to become significantly smoother and more convenient in the near future. Tourists who often struggle with long and frustrating traffic jams on the road between Kathgodam and Nainital will soon gain access to a modern ropeway service. The path for the construction of this ambitious project has been fully cleared, and preparations are progressing rapidly. To review the groundwork and advance the planning for this major undertaking, a joint inspection is scheduled to be held on September 7.
This ropeway project is counted among the major tourism development initiatives in the state of Uttarakhand. Preparations for its construction are being spearheaded by National Highways Logistics Management Limited alongside the district administration. Once the ropeway is operational, visitors will be able to bypass road traffic congestion entirely and travel smoothly from Kathgodam to Nainital while enjoying panoramic views of the beautiful mountain valleys along the way.
Four Stations Planned Along the 14-Kilometer Route
Spanning a total length of approximately 14 kilometers, the ropeway will be built at an estimated cost of around 1600 crore rupees. To facilitate the journey and manage passenger movement, four major terminals and stations will be established along the route. A lower terminal will be set up at HMT Ranibagh. Following that, a turn station will be constructed in Dolmar, a mid-term station in Jeolikote, and an upper terminal station at Hanuman Garhi in Nainital. These stations will provide travelers commuting between Kathgodam and Nainital with a fresh alternative to traditional roadways.
Hotels and Entertainment Zones to Come Up in Ranibagh
Additional District Magistrate Saurab Aswal shared that multiple facilities for tourists will be developed at various points alongside the ropeway project. Specifically, a three-star hotel will be constructed in Ranibagh at a cost of about 35.40 crore rupees. In addition, a multi-story car parking facility will be built for approximately 50 crore rupees. The area will also feature food outlets, a family entertainment zone, retail shops, and restaurants. This means travelers using the ropeway will not only get transit connectivity but also access to dining, shopping, and recreational amenities during their journey.
Eco-Tourism Resort Planned in Jeolikote
As part of the initiative, several facilities will also be developed near the Jeolikote ropeway station to cater to visitors. An eco-tourism resort will be constructed at this location with an investment of roughly 20.25 crore rupees. Alongside the resort, retail shops and food and beverage outlets will be developed to enhance the overall tourist experience in the area.
Relief from Traffic Jams and Scenic Views
Once the ropeway between Kathgodam and Nainital begins operations, visitors are expected to experience substantial relief from road traffic congestion. During peak tourist seasons, this transit system will serve as an alternative travel route for visitors heading to Nainital. Passengers will be able to glide above the traffic, taking in breathtaking aerial views of the natural landscape and arriving directly at their destination. This development is expected to make the travel experience to Nainital uniquely special and distinct from past visits.
