Early Life and Journey to Nainital
Siddhi Ma hailed from the picturesque hill town of Almora in Uttarakhand, where she was born as one of seven sisters. Following her marriage, her life shifted to Nainital, where she wed Tularam Shah, a resident of the town. Her husband was a deeply devoted follower of Neem Karoli Baba, and it was through him that Siddhi Ma first encountered the saint. Over time, her devotion deepened, and she immersed herself completely in the service and spiritual path laid down by the Baba.
Transition From Grihastha to Spiritual Devotion
In the early years following her marriage, Siddhi Ma lived a conventional householder's life in Nainital, with her residence reportedly located near the India Hotel on Mall Road. Following the passing of her husband, she detached herself entirely from worldly pursuits and dedicated her entire existence to serving the Baba. Even today, older residents and local people recount numerous memories of Shree Ma, keeping her legacy alive among followers and spiritual seekers.
Connection at Kainchi Dham and Hanumanghati
According to Tej Singh, a dedicated servant at Kainchi Dham, Neem Karoli Maharaj first visited Nainital around 1940. The initial meeting between the Baba and Siddhi Ma took place during the construction of the Hanumanghati temple. Devotees believe that the Baba used to address her as Katyayani Devi. It is widely narrated among followers that the Baba once looked from the Pashan Devi temple toward the India Hotel and prophesied that Katyayani resided there.
The Embodiment of Divine Grace
Among the community of devotees, there is a firm belief that Siddhi Ma was an earthly manifestation of Goddess Katyayani. This perception stems largely from collective faith, local traditions, and the personal accounts passed down through generations. It is said that before leaving his mortal body, the Baba remarked that wherever she stayed, auspiciousness would follow. True to this spirit, Siddhi Ma regularly met devotees on Tuesdays and Saturdays at Kainchi Dham. Final Departure and Eternal Memory at Kainchi Dham
On December 28, 2017, Siddhi Ma passed away at the age of approximately 92 at her residence in Mallital, Nainital. Following her demise, a statue of her was installed within the Kainchi Dham complex, alongside a dedicated prayer room built in her honor. Every year on December 28, an annual Bhandara is organized on her death anniversary to honor her memory. Kainchi Dham remains famous not just as a temple, but as a sacred space defined by its rich lineage of disciples, with Siddhi Ma standing proudly at the very heart of that heritage.
