Political temperature in West Bengal has soared as the Election Commission has announced bypolls for two crucial assembly constituencies, Nandigram and Rajganj. According to the poll schedule, voting for both seats will take place on October 6, and the votes will be counted with results declared on October 9. There is intense speculation in political circles that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee might contest the election from the high-profile Nandigram seat, which was vacated by Suvendu Adhikari. This potential electoral clash has set the stage for a high-stakes political battle.

Following the announcement of these upcoming by-elections, the war of words has officially begun. Responding to the developments, Suvendu Adhikari issued a strong and prominent statement. He asserted that the electoral contests in both Rajganj and Nandigram would witness a fierce battle. Taking a sharp tone, he further remarked that it remains to be seen what fate awaits them when the saffron-clad forces take action in these bypolls. Madan Mitra, belonging to the faction of TMC rebel Ritabrata Banerjee, made a significant announcement regarding the candidature. He stated that if Mamata Banerjee enters the fray as the candidate from the Nandigram seat, their faction will not field any candidate from that constituency. He emphasized that this stance was already made clear previously, consolidating support behind the party leadership.

Amidst the political sparring, controversies surrounding recent public events have also come to the fore. Referring to a specific incident, it was noted that a saint had visited Liluah and spoke on themes of patriotism, nationalism, Akhand Bharat, and traditional values, noting that accepting or rejecting these views is a matter of personal choice with no coercion involved. However, strong condemnation followed after some individuals reportedly burned photographs in protest right in front of the Bhowanipore police station.
Addressing this incident, strict directives were issued to the Commissioner of Kolkata Police to immediately arrest those involved in the protest. It was firmly stated that such lawless behavior will not be tolerated anywhere in the state. Criticizing the prevalence of appeasement politics, leaders demanded an immediate halt to such practices, emphasizing that the time has come to draw a hard line against disruptive demonstrations.
