Ramkrishna Tudu, an eighth-grade student who was visually impaired in both eyes since birth, regained his eyesight following a complex medical operation. Student lived with congenital visual impairment
Resident of Sundarpur village under Ukta panchayat in Ausgram-1 block, Ramkrishna Tudu was unable to see from birth. To restore his son's vision, his father Gopal Tudu continuously sought medical treatments for the past 13 years. During this prolonged period, he spent lakhs of rupees, yet no successful breakthrough was achieved. Once Ramkrishna enrolled at Bhedia High School, the faculty learned about his condition. For nearly a year, the school's teachers made personal efforts to figure out how to arrange medical treatment to restore the student's vision.
Surgery cost 1.50 lakh rupees
Following these efforts, teacher-in-charge Naba Kumar Ghosh took charge of the situation. Arrangements were made for Ramkrishna's medical treatment at a private nursing home in Kolkata. Last Monday, a complex surgery was performed on his eye. The total medical treatment cost approximately 1.50 lakh rupees, which Naba Kumar Ghosh paid entirely from his personal savings. Following the operation, Ramkrishna is currently able to see out of one eye. After living in prolonged darkness, the return of sight has brought immense joy to the student, his family, and the school faculty.
Father overwhelmed with emotion on Teachers' Day
On Saturday, a Teachers' Day celebration event was organized at Bhedia High School. Ramkrishna's father, Gopal Tudu, was present at the ceremony. During the event, teacher-in-charge Naba Kumar Ghosh honored him on stage. Recalling the pivotal role played by the teacher in restoring his son's eyesight, Gopal Tudu grew emotional as tears welled up in his eyes. He expressed deep gratitude and utmost respect toward the educator.
Gopal Tudu shared that despite struggling for a long time to treat his son without finding any solution, the school's teachers stood firmly by their side. The headmaster spent his personal savings to arrange the medical procedure, for which he will remain eternally grateful.
