Amid rising political heat in West Bengal, South Kolkata witnessed a massive demonstration on Wednesday as leader Suvendu Adhikari spearheaded a three-kilometer rally toward Jadavpur University. Tension flared outside the campus when the main gates of Jadavpur University were kept firmly shut during the arrival of the padayatra. Expressing strong disapproval over the locked gates, Suvendu Adhikari addressed a crowd assembled outside the premises and declared a firm resolve to dismantle anti-national elements operating within the university. The procession was organized with the primary goal of upholding the dignity of the color saffron and countering concerted attempts to tarnish its significance.
Fiery Attack on Campus Extremism and Anti-National Slogans
Addressing the gathering stationed outside the university gates, Suvendu Adhikari delivered a stern warning against disruptive forces. He emphasized that Jadavpur University stands as a prestigious center of excellence and represents the sacred land of Rishi Aurobindo. He asserted that groups raising slogans such as "Kashmir wants freedom" inside the campus, individuals offering red salutes to Kishanji, and those responsible for scribbling provocative "Bhagwa Tandav" graffiti on campus walls would be completely eradicated. Recalling his political journey, Adhikari reminded the public of his 2011 pledge when he vowed to remove communist governance from the state of West Bengal.
Saffron March Route and Participation of Devotees
The three-kilometer procession, titled the 'Gerua Samman Yatra', commenced from Golpark in South Kolkata and concluded at the 8B bus stand located directly outside the Jadavpur University campus. A substantial turnout of BJP supporters alongside numerous sadhus and religious figures took part in the march, wearing traditional saffron attire, waving saffron flags, and chanting slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram'. A BJP leader highlighted that the march aimed to foster public awareness regarding the core values, ideals, and respect associated with the color saffron while actively protesting ongoing campaigns aimed at disrespecting it.
Escalating Campus Tensions and Recent Background
The high-profile rally comes in the wake of intensifying ideological and political friction at Jadavpur University. Recent weeks have seen frequent physical clashes, wall-writing disputes, and aggressive slogan rivalries between Left-wing student factions and the RSS-affiliated ABVP. This political march follows a major event held less than two weeks prior near the campus, where Adhikari had attended a gathering of approximately 10,000 individuals who collectively recited the complete version of 'Vande Mataram'. Wednesday's rally marks a continuation of that momentum amidst ongoing campus unrest.
