A disturbing incident has emerged from the East Bardhaman district of West Bengal, where the mutilated body of a 28-year-old married tribal woman was discovered in a field near the Palitpur canal, falling under the jurisdiction of the Dewandighi police station. The victim, identified as Rani Hemram, had been residing in her maternal home in Palitpur for an extended period, despite her matrimonial home being located in Digirpara. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Incident
According to information provided by the family, Rani Hemram left her house on Tuesday evening in search of her husband. When her husband arrived home later, he learned that his wife had stepped out to look for him. This prompted an immediate search by family members and local residents. After an extensive search, her blood-stained body was discovered in a field adjacent to the canal. The grieving family has levelled grave allegations, claiming that Rani was subjected to gang rape before being brutally murdered.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Upon receiving the information, officials from the Dewandighi police station arrived at the scene, secured the area, and sent the body to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. Based on a formal written complaint from the victim's family, the police initiated an urgent investigation. Within 24 hours of the crime, authorities successfully arrested two suspects, identified as Sheikh Azizul and Sheikh Bhadai. While Sheikh Azizul was apprehended from the Dewandighi area, Sheikh Bhadai was traced to the Nanoor region of Birbhum district. Both individuals have been charged under severe sections including gang rape, murder, and destruction of evidence, and were produced before the Burdwan District Court.

To ensure all technical evidence is collected, a five-member forensic team visited the site on Wednesday to gather various samples for investigation. Police stated that the case will proceed based on the post-mortem report, forensic findings, and other scientific evidence.
