SSB Mobilizes 18 Relief Teams; High Alert Issued in Bihar
In response to the emergency across the border, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has deployed 18 specialized teams to undertake search, rescue, and relief operations in border zones. Additionally, the border guarding force has put all its field units stationed along the 1,751-kilometer Indo-Nepal international border on high alert to render immediate assistance.
Because the sudden discharge of water from Nepalese rivers poses a severe downstream risk, neighboring Indian states have responded swiftly. An official alert has been sounded in Bihar, where administrative machinery and disaster mitigation units have been instructed to monitor water levels closely and prepare for potential overflow.
Severe Destruction Along Bhote Koshi River Basin
The riverine areas adjoining the Bhote Koshi river bore the maximum brunt of the floodwaters. The sudden torrent destroyed several structures, washing away numerous vehicles and local infrastructure. At a northern Rasuwa border outpost, four personnel of the Nepal Armed Police Force went missing after the surge inundated their position.
The extreme weather event has also disrupted Nepal's power and transport network. According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, six major hydroelectric infrastructure projects alongside key power transmission corridors have suffered substantial damage. Concurrently, several major highways remain shut due to landslides and road collapse, complicating movement across the region.
