The newly launched millet canteen known as Shri Anna Gallery, located within the Agriculture Bhavan premises in Bahraich, has quickly become a major attraction for locals and visitors alike. Initiated under the joint efforts of the Uttar Pradesh government and the agriculture department, this establishment promotes pure and nutritious eating habits by serving traditional coarse grain preparations alongside wholesome home-style meals. Apart from residents, professionals and workers who have moved to the city from outside for employment frequently visit the canteen to relish the food.
Complete Thali Priced at 75 Rupees
According to the canteen operator Shivang Jaiswal, the primary goal is to provide customers with food that tastes and feels just like home at an affordable price. For a modest price of 75 rupees, a thali is served featuring split pigeon pea dal with husks, organically farmed rice, wheat flour rotis, seasonal green vegetables, fresh salad, and boondi raita. Local resident Vinod Kumar Shukla, who visited the eatery for a meal, stated that the food closely resembles home-cooked meals. He also praised the unique arrangement of serving drinking water in earthen bottles.
Breakfast and Dining Hours From Morning to Night
Shri Anna Gallery remains operational for customers from 8 AM to 9 PM every day. The morning breakfast menu features diverse options such as millet poha, millet biscuits, parathas, and tea. As per the pricing structure, a plate of two parathas costs 30 rupees, a plate of fritters is priced at 20 rupees, and tea is available for 12 rupees. Special provisions are also maintained for individuals who prefer simple food options. To uphold traditional elements, drinking water is served on tables inside earthen bottles, avoiding artificial containers.
Sourcing Ingredients Directly From Local Farmers
Shivang Jaiswal explained that all the food ingredients and spices utilized in the kitchen are procured directly from local farmers. The management places strong emphasis on preventing adulteration and maintaining top-tier food quality standards. In an effort to promote eco-friendly practices, plastic is strictly avoided inside the premises, and water is served exclusively in clay vessels. Furthermore, products manufactured by Farmer Producer Organizations are kept available for purchase, which include cold-pressed mustard oil, local honey from Bahraich, sorghum and pearl millet flour, along with various millet biscuits and cookies.
Comfortable Seating and Convenient Location
For individuals arriving from other regions to work or study in the district, this canteen serves as a reliable and comforting dining alternative. Fully air-conditioned seating arrangements have been made available free of charge for customers to comfortably enjoy their meals. Those wishing to experience traditional millet delicacies and home-cooked flavors can visit the facility located inside the Agriculture Bhavan premises right next to the medical college in Bahraich, where catering services run seamlessly throughout the day.
