A road adjacent to the US Consulate in Hyderabad has been officially renamed Donald Trump Avenue, in a ceremony held on Tuesday as part of the Freedom 250 celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. The gesture drew a warm public response from Trump, who on Friday took to Truth Social to thank India and declare that no American president before him had ever received such a distinction.
Trump Calls It a Historic First for Any American President
Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
New 'Donald Trump Avenue' in Hyderabad, India. I am the first American President to be so honored. Thank you!
The message made clear just how meaningful the tribute was to him, with Trump pointing out that he had become the first American president to be honored with a street naming in this manner.
The Freedom 250 Ceremony: Who Attended
The formal naming took place during the Freedom 250 event, organized in Hyderabad to mark 250 years of American independence. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka jointly unveiled a commemorative plaque at the site. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, US Consul General in Hyderabad Laura Williams, and several senior officials from government, industry, defense, aerospace and technology sectors were also in attendance.
The Reasoning Behind the Name
According to the Telangana government, renaming the road near the US Consulate is intended to symbolize the deepening relationship between India and the United States, as well as Hyderabad's expanding role on the world stage. The decision was taken specifically to honor the strategic, economic and technological cooperation the two nations share.
Ambassador Gor: Hyderabad Is Where India-US Partnership Moves Fastest
Addressing the gathering, US Ambassador Sergio Gor said the most rapid progress in India-US relations is visible right here in Hyderabad. He pointed to cooperation in Hi-Tech City, aerospace and defense as key pillars that are elevating the bilateral partnership to new heights. Gor also disclosed that through an interim trade agreement and the Mission India initiative, work is underway to bring over $20 billion in fresh investments into the United States. He closed with a pointed remark that captured the spirit of the event: America First does not mean America alone.
