Indian automaker Mahindra has launched a new 6-seater configuration for its flagship premium electric SUV, the XEV 9S. This new seating layout replaces the standard second-row three-passenger bench seat with individual captain seats, offering enhanced comfort and personal space for rear occupants. Designed for chauffeur-driven customers and families seeking greater long-distance travel luxury, the new 6-seater layout has been introduced across three key trim levels: Pack Two Above, Pack Three, and Pack Three Above.
Pricing Structure and Variant Positioning
The Mahindra XEV 9S 6-seater range carries a starting ex-showroom price of ₹25.25 lakh. When compared to the corresponding 7-seater trims, the captain seat version carries a modest price premium of approximately ₹25,000. Across the complete lineup, the Mahindra XEV 9S currently ranges from ₹20.65 lakh for the entry variant to ₹30.15 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-end specification. Apart from the revised seating arrangement in the cabin, Mahindra has maintained the original exterior design, feature suite, and powertrain specifications without any mechanical modifications.

The highlight of the 6-seater variant is the second-row seating arrangement, featuring two standalone captain seats separated by a central console equipped with dedicated armrests and integrated cupholders. Up front, the dashboard is anchored by a triple 12.3-inch display setup that integrates a digital driver display, a central infotainment screen, and a dedicated passenger screen. The cabin feature list also includes a panoramic glass roof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a wireless smartphone charging pad, powered front seats with memory settings, and multi-zone automatic climate control.

- 59 kWh Battery Pack: Generates 231 hp of power and delivers a certified MIDC range of 521 km.
- 70 kWh Battery Pack: Produces 245 hp of peak power while extending the driving range up to 600 km.
- 79 kWh Battery Pack: Represents the top specification, developing 286 hp and delivering a claimed range of up to 679 km.
All variants operate on a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) setup and produce a uniform peak torque of 380 Nm. Charging performance is anchored by 180 kW DC fast-charging support for the largest 79 kWh battery, enabling a 20% to 80% state of charge in approximately 20 minutes. With this new captain seat option, the XEV 9S presents a compelling choice for buyers prioritizing rear-seat luxury over maximum seating capacity.
