Widespread discontent has surfaced among rural women in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand, following the sudden removal of several eligible beneficiaries from the Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana list. The issue came to light in the Bouakala North Panchayat, situated under the Baghmara block, where dozens of women discovered that their names were omitted after a recent physical verification drive. Despite fulfilling all requisite eligibility criteria and having previously received financial assistance under the flagship state welfare scheme, affected residents have been forced to visit the Panchayat Secretariat repeatedly over the past three weeks without gaining any administrative resolution.
Unexplained Deletions Following Physical Verification
According to local residents, the affected women were regular recipients of the Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana until official records were updated post-verification. Following the door-to-door physical verification conducted by local authorities, dozens of women were informed that their names no longer featured on the beneficiary roster. Distressed by the abrupt discontinuation of their benefits, the aggrieved women assembled at the Panchayat Secretariat to raise their grievances formally. They alleged that the authorities removed their names arbitrarily without issuing prior notice or providing an official explanation for their disqualification.

Highlighting the administrative hurdle, Varsha Ravani, one of the affected beneficiaries, shared that she has been making routine trips to the panchayat office for nearly three weeks to restore her status. Ravani and other impacted women urged senior administrative officials to audit the physical verification data, correct any procedural or clerical errors that may have occurred during the survey, and immediately reinstate all eligible individuals to the beneficiary list.

Lending support to the protesting women, Laxmikant Rajak, former Mukhia representative of Bouakala North Panchayat, called for a thorough official investigation into the verification process. He appealed to district administration officials to re-examine the verification reports carefully, identify any flaws in the audit process, and ensure that every qualifying woman is restored to the scheme without further delay.
