The Incident of April 30, 1908 in the Karbala Area
The Karbala area of Muzaffarpur remains a pivotal landmark in the narrative of Khudiram Bose's revolutionary activities. On the night of April 30, 1908, Khudiram Bose alongside his fellow revolutionary Prafulla Chaki carried out an attack against British colonial authority. The duo targeted the horse-drawn carriage of Douglas Kingsford, who was the District Judge at the time. However, Judge Douglas Kingsford was not inside the vehicle during the attack; instead, two European women were traveling in the carriage. Following this bombing incident, Khudiram Bose was apprehended, initiating the legal proceedings that eventually led to his execution. Today, the Karbala locality is etched in history as the site of this bold revolutionary strike.
Muzaffarpur Jail, Execution Day, and Annual Traditions
After his arrest following the bombing incident, Khudiram Bose was detained in the Muzaffarpur Jail, where the trial took place and the death sentence was handed down by the court. On August 11, 1908, inside the premises of this jail, the young hero was executed at just 18 years of age. To honor his historic sacrifice, the correctional facility was later renamed Khudiram Bose Central Jail. Every year on August 11, a unique and poignant tradition is observed at the jail premises. A delegation of residents from Khudiram Bose's native village travels to the execution site inside the prison complex. They bring soil from his ancestral home and prasad from the local Kali temple to offer at the spot where he was hanged. Additionally, the district administration pays official tribute by presenting a Guard of Honour at the execution site every August 11.

Located in the Chandwara area, roughly 500 meters north of Khudiram Bose Central Jail, this location marks the final chapter of the young martyr's journey. Authorities are currently developing and upgrading this cremation site to give it a renewed and dignified memorial structure. Furthermore, a major memorial dedicated to the revolutionary is situated in the Companybagh area of Muzaffarpur. On August 11, youth groups and various social organizations gather at Companybagh to pay floral tributes and honor the memory of Khudiram Bose.
