As part of this ongoing expansion, plans have been finalized to construct a two-kilometer-long flyover at Simrahi Bazaar located in the Supaul district of Bihar. This new infrastructure addition aims to permanently resolve the severe traffic bottlenecks that routinely plague the region.
Four-Lane Structure and Connecting Roads
The upcoming flyover will feature four lanes and will be linked directly to National Highway 72. To ensure seamless vehicle movement, the project layout includes the construction of dedicated service roads and approach roads alongside the main bridge. When these supplementary pathways are factored in, the total span of the project reaches 2.04 kilometers.
Financial Estimates and Construction Timeline
The National Highways Authority of India has already initiated the bidding process to award the contract for this major undertaking. Financial projections indicate that the entire project will require an approximate investment of 185 crore rupees. Once construction commences, the selected contractor will be bound by a strict two-year completion deadline, followed by a ten-year maintenance period to uphold the structural quality.
Relief From Chronic Urban Congestion
Supaul is widely recognized as one of the less developed districts in Bihar, with National Highway 72 passing directly through the middle of the town. Because commercial and transit traffic must navigate through the populated center, the area witnesses persistent traffic jams throughout the day, severely inconveniencing both local residents and commuters. The completion of this flyover will bypass the town center entirely, allowing heavy and through traffic to avoid the congested market area.
Bidding Schedule and Selection Criteria
The execution of this project will be closely supervised by the National Highways Authority of India. The alignment of the flyover will run alongside the service lane of National Highway 27, stretching across the entire expanse of the town. Official notices released regarding the contract state that the bidding window opened on September 17. Interested contractors have until 11:00 AM on November 2 to submit their proposals. The technical evaluation and tender opening process is scheduled to commence at 11:30 AM on November 3, with preference given to cost-effective bids that incorporate superior construction technology.
