The widespread anger surrounding the NEET paper leak controversy shows no signs of subsiding, taking a violent and chaotic turn in Bihar's capital on Wednesday. Hundreds of activists belonging to the All India Students Association (AISA) took to the streets of Patna to strongly protest against the alleged rigging of the crucial medical entrance examination. The demonstration quickly escalated into a physical clash between the protesting youth and law enforcement personnel who were heavily deployed to maintain public order.
March to Lokbhavan Halted
The ground situation intensified significantly when the student activists began their planned march towards the Lokbhavan to register their grievances directly. Police forces intercepted the massive crowd midway, strictly attempting to halt their progress. What began as a heated verbal exchange quickly deteriorated into a direct physical confrontation. Widespread pushing and shoving erupted between the two sides as the students remained determined to advance, while the police were equally resolute in keeping them contained within restricted zones, leading to complete chaos in the busy area.
Allegations of Baton-Charge and Water Cannons
The student organisation has strongly condemned the police action, alleging unprovoked brutality against a peaceful gathering. According to the protesting activists, the police resorted to a severe baton-charge and rapidly deployed water cannons to disperse the crowd forcefully. However, local law enforcement authorities have officially defended their response to the escalating situation. Police representatives stated that the demonstrators grew highly aggressive and actively attempted to breach the established security barricades. They maintained that necessary and proportionate crowd-control measures had to be taken only after the vital security perimeter was compromised by the mob.
A Deepening National Crisis
Wednesday's intense clash in Patna is part of a much larger wave of unrest sweeping across the state and the entire country. Over the past few weeks, AISA and various other student bodies have held continuous protests in regions like Buxar and Fatuha, even resorting to burning effigies of the Union Education Minister. The massive NEET paper leak issue has already triggered a major uproar in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, and opposition parties within the INDIA bloc are preparing to aggressively raise the matter in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. Meanwhile, the repeated examination cancellations and deep systemic uncertainty have left thousands of ambitious students, many of whom travelled hundreds of kilometres from rural farming families, utterly devastated after years of dedicated hard work.
