A fresh initiative has been launched in the Khagaria district of Bihar to strengthen the agricultural sector and boost farmers' incomes. To provide relief to cultivators facing water scarcity issues, the government is promoting the adoption of micro-irrigation systems. The primary goal of this effort is to lower production costs and improve crop yields, enabling higher profits with fewer resources.
Financial assistance for drip irrigation
According to district horticulture officials, farmers are being provided with up to 55 percent subsidies for installing drip systems under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana. Under this scheme, a maximum assistance amount of 33,747 rupees per hectare has been fixed. An individual farmer can avail of this benefit for an area of up to 12.5 acres. A target of approximately 400 acres has been set for this scheme in the Khagaria district this year. Adopting the drip method ensures water reaches directly to the roots of the plants, preventing water wastage and significantly reducing irrigation expenses.
Benefits through the mini sprinkler scheme
Apart from the drip system, financial assistance is also being provided for setting up mini sprinkler technology. Under this scheme, farmers will receive a subsidy of up to 25,269 rupees per hectare. A target of 20 acres has been designated for this specific component in the Khagaria district. The rules and procedures for obtaining benefits under this process are similar to those of drip irrigation.
Main objectives of the irrigation scheme
The administration believes that the use of micro-irrigation systems will improve farm irrigation management. The core objective of this entire scheme is to conserve every drop of water, minimize farming expenditure, and increase overall productivity to ensure the economic development of farmers.
