Salaried individuals have received a major relief as the retirement fund body has overhauled its advance withdrawal policies. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has streamlined the rules for taking advances from provident fund accounts, ensuring that subscribers can tackle financial crunches with greater ease. Accessing funds for healthcare, children schooling, weddings, and housing requirements is now much simpler. The organization has shared detailed guidelines regarding the withdrawal limits and the frequency allowed for different personal needs.
Under the updated framework, a member becomes eligible to apply for an advance after completing 12 months of EPF membership. Subscribers can withdraw up to a maximum of 75 percent of the total accumulated balance in their account, which combines the employee share, employer share, and the accrued interest. This means that once eligibility criteria are met, three-fourths of the total pool can be drawn as an advance during times of financial need.
No Limit on Medical Withdrawals
Essential life events have been categorized separately by the fund body, covering healthcare, education, and marriages. In medical emergencies, a subscriber can secure an advance for self or family treatment, and there is no restriction on the number of times money can be withdrawn for health reasons. On the other hand, advances for educational purposes are capped at a maximum of 10 times during the entire membership period, while wedding-related withdrawals are permitted up to 5 times.
Housing Support Through PF Savings
Housing needs are also accommodated within the advance withdrawal framework. Employees can utilize their savings to purchase a house, apartment, or plot, construct a dwelling unit, repay an existing home loan, or handle renovation and repair work. Members are allowed a maximum of 5 withdrawals under this housing category throughout their service tenure. Furthermore, under special circumstances notified by the organization, an advance can be taken up to 2 times within a single financial year.
Online Application Process
Subscribers wishing to claim an advance can submit their requests digitally through the official web portal. Before initiating the request, it is mandatory to complete the KYC verification linking your bank account, PAN, and Aadhaar. Once the specific eligibility conditions are successfully met, the online application procedure can be completed smoothly.
