A tragic incident has emerged from Korba district in Chhattisgarh, where a 40-year-old woman ended her life by hanging after allegedly suffering continuous family disputes and harassment. The incident occurred in the Laxmanbandh area under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali police station. The deceased has been identified as Laxmi Manikpuri. Before taking this extreme step, the woman recorded a video message on her mobile phone and sent it to her sisters, expressing that she could no longer endure the humiliation and live a life of disrespect. Upon being informed of the tragedy, local police promptly reached the spot, seized the body, and launched a thorough investigation into the matter.
Family Disputes and Videos Recorded Prior to the Incident
According to available information, a heated argument took place inside the house among her husband, son, and daughter-in-law shortly before the tragic event. The altercation escalated rapidly, creating intense tension within the household. A video capturing this domestic conflict has also surfaced. Furthermore, another video showing a quarrel between Laxmi, her husband, and her stepson has come to light. In the recording, Laxmi can be seen and heard accusing her first husband's son and daughter-in-law of subjecting her to severe harassment. In the emotional clip, she explicitly stated that living under such humiliation was intolerable for her and declared her intention to commit suicide. Overwhelmed by distress, she hanged herself on 27 August.
Suicide Note Found on Wall and Ongoing Police Investigation
When the police team arrived at the residence in Laxmanbandh and inspected the room, they discovered a handwritten suicide note inscribed directly on the room's wall. In the message written on the wall, Laxmi explicitly blamed her daughter-in-law, Poornima Mahant, for driving her to death. Providing details on the matter, Korba City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Prateek Chaturvedi stated that police received news of the woman's suicide and immediately dispatched a team to the scene. He confirmed that handwriting experts are being engaged to examine the authenticity of the writing found on the wall. Additionally, law enforcement authorities are meticulously analyzing the video footage and other material evidence while recording the statements of family members.
Family Background and History of Marriage
Laxmi Manikpuri originally belonged to Aramshin Para Basti and was residing in Laxmanbandh following her marriage. During the COVID-19 pandemic, her first husband passed away, leaving behind two sons. Following her first husband's demise, Laxmi contracted a second marriage with Kartik Das on 13 June last year in accordance with traditional social customs. Kartik Das works as a contractor and also has two sons from his previous marriage. Friction and disputes between family members had reportedly persisted, ultimately culminating in this tragic loss of life.
