A commotion broke out at the Gagodar police station in Kutch district, Gujarat, after a woman climbed onto the building roof and threatened to jump off to commit suicide. Police personnel managed to safely negotiate her descent and prevent a tragedy. However, during the rescue operation, a female police officer sustained injuries when she was pushed down the stairs and had to be rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. Prior to climbing the roof, the woman also caused a ruckus inside the station premises and smashed office equipment.
Protest Over Morning Police Proceedings
The incident occurred at the Gagodar police station located in Rapar taluka of Kutch district. According to details regarding the case, Bagiben Nagji Koli and Nagji Chhagan Koli, both residents of Raimalwandh-Kanmer, had been summoned to the police station earlier in the morning. Their presence was required to record statements in connection with a formal application and complete related custody formalities. Once the police completed recording their statements and wrapped up the necessary procedures, both individuals were permitted to return home.
However, later in the evening, both individuals returned to the Gagodar police station in a state of high agitation. They began confronting the on-duty police staff and vehemently objected to the action taken by the police. They raised angry questions demanding to know why they were repeatedly subjected to custody and police questioning. The confrontation quickly escalated as they created a noisy scene inside the station building.
Vandalism in Writer Room and High Voltage Standoff
As the argument intensified, Bagiben forcefully entered the Crime Writer Room inside the police station. She grabbed a computer printer placed on one of the office tables and violently threw it onto the floor, shattering the device completely. Immediately after damaging the equipment, she rushed to the roof of the police station building and positioned herself precariously near the edge.
Standing on the roof, the woman started shouting threats that she would leap to her death if anyone attempted to get close to her. The sudden suicide threat created significant panic and tension among the police staff. Realizing the severity of the situation, several officers rushed to the roof and began talking to her, attempting to calm her down and persuade her to step back safely.
Police Officer Injured and Legal Action Initiated
While the officers were attempting to guide her down safely, the woman suddenly exerted physical force and pushed female police constable Indiraben down the stairwell. The unexpected push caused the officer to tumble down the stairs, resulting in bodily injuries. Fellow officers immediately assisted Indiraben and transported her to a nearby hospital for medical care.
Following the rescue and assault, the police team overpowered both Bagiben Nagji Koli and Nagji Chhagan Koli and brought them into custody. Gagodar police have registered a formal case against both individuals for obstructing public servants in the discharge of official duties, using criminal force against a police officer on duty, and causing damage to government property. Official legal proceedings against both accused are currently underway as per prescribed rules.
