A shocking incident of high-profile hospitality fraud has surfaced from Udaipur, Rajasthan, where a four-member family from Delhi stayed at the ultra-luxurious resort The Oberoi Udaivilas for 10 days and walked away without settling their bill of Rs 5.74 lakh. The family enjoyed world-class amenities and royal dining from August 14 to August 23 before refusing to pay during checkout on August 24. Following a formal complaint from the hotel management, local authorities registered a police case to investigate the matter.
Ten Days of Royal Hospitality Ended in Checkout Dispute
According to the details of the case, the Delhi resident checked into The Oberoi Udaivilas on August 14 accompanied by his wife and two children. For ten consecutive days, the family utilized all the premier facilities, dining options, and luxury services provided by the five-star property. However, when the checkout procedure commenced on August 24 and the front desk presented the total accumulated bill of Rs 5,74,000, the guest flatly refused to clear the dues.
Instead of making the payment, the individual claimed that the entire bill would be covered by the travel agency that arranged their stay. The family then departed from the premises without settling the account. Unable to secure the payment directly from the guest, the resort management immediately escalated the issue to local law enforcement.
Police Investigation and the Travel Agency Connection
The hotel management lodged an official complaint at the Ambamata police station in Udaipur. As per the First Information Report (FIR), the reservation had been placed via an email sent on August 12 by an entity named Maker Baha Travel Agency. The hotel representatives confirmed that no special discounts, deferred payment agreements, or unique terms had been negotiated or approved for this booking.
Police officials have initiated an investigation to determine whether the incident stems from a genuine failure or dispute involving the travel agency, or if it was a deliberate attempt by the family to enjoy high-end luxury accommodations and evade payment. Officers at Ambamata police station are examining all communication records and booking documentation associated with the transaction.

The unpaid bill of Rs 5.74 lakh for a 10-day stay has now raised serious security and operational concerns within the luxury hotel industry.
