A 55-year-old woman lost her life on Thursday in a tragic road accident near the Khajuri Flyover in north-east Delhi. The deceased served in the Delhi Home Guards and was actively performing duties as a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus marshal. The fatal chain of events unfolded while she was attempting to cross the busy thoroughfare during midday traffic, resulting in a sudden collision involving two separate moving vehicles.
Local police units received an emergency call reporting the severe road mishap at approximately 12:18 pm on Thursday afternoon. Following the distress alert, a specialized team from the Khajuri Khas police station was dispatched directly to the location. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and formally identified the victim as Sunita Thepaliyal, a resident of the nearby Bhajanpura locality.
Sequence of the Deadly Collision
Preliminary findings from the ongoing police inquiry revealed that Sunita Thepaliyal was walking across the carriageway near the approach to the Khajuri Flyover. Around the same moment, a loaded commercial truck was navigating the corridor. Seeing the pedestrian right in front of the vehicle, the truck driver applied the brakes abruptly in an attempt to prevent an impact. However, the presence and sheer bulk of the stationary truck created a blind spot, obstructing the line of sight for an approaching motorcycle rider.
Unable to notice the pedestrian crossing behind the visual barrier, the motorcycle struck Sunita Thepaliyal with considerable force. The impact tossed her onto the tarmac directly into the path of the truck. Consequently, she was caught under the heavy vehicle and sustained massive physical trauma across multiple vital areas.
Hospital Declares Pedestrian Brought Dead
Good Samaritans and commuters present at the spot rushed forward immediately to render assistance. Bystanders transported the unconscious woman without delay to the nearby JPC Hospital in hopes of timely medical intervention. However, upon clinical evaluation, attending physicians at the emergency ward declared her brought dead. The extent of internal injuries and fatal shock left no opportunity for resuscitation.
Police personnel arrived at the medical facility shortly thereafter to complete standard medico-legal formalities. The body was subsequently shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem analysis, and grieving family members in Bhajanpura were notified about the untimely tragedy.
Both Truck Driver and Motorcyclist Taken into Custody
At the collision site, investigating teams located and impounded both vehicles involved in the incident, specifically the motorcycle and the commercial truck. Officials at the Khajuri Khas police station registered a formal criminal case invoking pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) concerning rash driving and death caused by negligence.
Law enforcement authorities have apprehended both the truck driver and the motorcyclist in connection with the fatal crash.
