The National Human Rights Commission has taken serious note of the alleged gang-rape of a 16-year-old class 11 student inside a moving sleeper bus. The horrific incident took place on August 4 during a journey from Greater Noida towards Delhi, where the bus driver and conductor allegedly subjected the minor girl to sexual assault. Acting under the chairmanship of commission member Priyank Kanungo, the panel viewed the matter with utmost gravity. Consequently, the commission has officially issued notices to the Delhi Police Commissioner and the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissioner, directing the concerned authorities to thoroughly investigate the allegations and submit a detailed action-taken report within a strict deadline of two weeks.
Moving sleeper bus ran for 47 kilometers during the assault
According to information shared by the police, the victim hails from Mainpuri district in Uttar Pradesh and is studying in the 11th grade. On the day of the incident, she had left her home following a domestic dispute and was trying to reach a relative's place. Due to heavy rain and darkness along the way, she mistakenly got down at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. While waiting for transport to go to Noida, she boarded a sleeper bus after the driver and conductor told her that the vehicle was headed to Noida Sector 63. The bus was completely empty except for the two crew members, and its windows were fitted with curtains, which completely blocked the view and prevented anyone outside from noticing the crime occurring inside.
The bus kept running for 47 kilometers while the driver and conductor continuously assaulted the minor inside. When the victim attempted to resist their brutal actions, the perpetrators threatened to kill her. Ultimately, the accused abandoned her near Kashmiri Gate before fleeing from the spot. The police publicly disclosed the details of this shocking crime on August 31, triggering widespread outrage and prompting the intervention of the national rights panel.
Both accused driver and conductor arrested by police
Following the emergence of this disturbing case, law enforcement authorities took swift action and apprehended the culprits. The police successfully arrested the bus driver Kuldeep and the conductor Sandeep, although the exact date of their arrest has not been officially specified in the available police disclosures. This brutal crime has once again raised serious concerns regarding passenger safety and the security of women in public transport systems across the national capital region.
