Ajay Devgn has returned to the big screen as Vijay Salgaonkar in the suspense thriller 'Drishyam 3: The Conclusion'. Arriving in theaters on October 2, 2026, to coincide with Gandhi Jayanti, the film generated massive audience excitement from its opening hours and quickly began breaking existing franchise benchmarks. With theater occupancy surging over the holiday period, the latest chapter offers a compelling study of how each installment in this celebrated thriller series has performed commercially.
Cast Ensemble and an Explosive Four-Day Start
Helmed by director Abhishek Pathak, the third installment features Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, and Jaideep Ahlawat alongside Ajay Devgn in central roles. Within its first four days, the thriller accumulated box office earnings that completely eclipsed the entire lifetime run of the original 2015 release. Benefiting heavily from an extended festive weekend, the production quickly turned into a major draw across domestic and international markets.
The Trajectory of the Original 2015 Drishyam
The suspense journey began back in 2015 under the direction of Nishikant Kamat, who introduced cinema audiences to cable TV operator Vijay Salgaonkar and his family. The inaugural film opened with a modest start, registering an opening day domestic collection of 5.85 crore rupees.
Despite the subdued launch, strong audience word-of-mouth gave the title steady momentum in subsequent weeks. The first film eventually wrapped up its theatrical run with an all-India net total of 67.13 crore rupees, alongside a worldwide gross tally of 110.40 crore rupees. By comparison, 'Drishyam 3' managed to surpass that initial film's lifetime domestic net earnings in just two days, while its four-day worldwide gross has already expanded to nearly triple the total global business of the 2015 original.
The Huge Box Office Run of Drishyam 2 in 2022
Building upon the solid reputation of the initial chapter, the second installment debuted in November 2022 and transformed into a major commercial hit. It expanded the footprint of the franchise, beginning with a notable first-day domestic net collection of 15.38 crore rupees. Maintaining consistent audience turnout over multiple weeks, 'Drishyam 2' concluded its run with a lifetime domestic net collection of 240.54 crore rupees and an impressive worldwide gross of 345 crore rupees.
Chasing New Highs in Franchise Earnings
After just four days in cinemas, 'Drishyam 3' is trailing the domestic lifetime net total of 'Drishyam 2' by approximately 43 crore rupees. On the global stage, the film requires an additional 42 crore rupees to overtake the 345 crore rupees worldwide gross benchmark established by the second film. Given its current performance trajectory, industry observers anticipate that the third entry will soon eclipse both marks.
Taking full advantage of the national holiday on October 2, 2026, the project registered the biggest opening weekend in the history of the series. Across its first four days, the production generated a domestic net total of 197.50 crore rupees in India, while pushing its worldwide gross collections to 303 crore rupees.
