Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has traveled to Ukraine on an official visit. During his engagements in Kyiv, he held a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The discussions between the two leaders covered a wide range of critical topics, including the ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, food supply chains, and other pressing matters. The Ukrainian president expressed sincere appreciation for India's supportive stance and approach toward the ongoing crisis during the meeting.
High-Level Talks in Kyiv
Reflecting on the discussions, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the meeting with the Indian external affairs minister addressed several key issues. He stated deep gratitude for India's commitment toward bringing an end to the ongoing unjust war. Emphasizing that this era is not for warfare, he reiterated that peace is an absolute necessity and that India's position on the matter has remained clear. Notably, on the very day of the visit while the Indian minister was in Kyiv, Russian forces launched another drone strike utilizing drones reportedly built with Iranian assistance.
Security Measures Amid Aerial Attacks
The Ukrainian leader detailed the security dynamics during the aerial assault, crediting the nation's combat aviation for keeping the delegation safe as most incoming drones were successfully intercepted and shot down by Ukrainian fighter jets. He expressed hope that other major global powers would also take a definitive and unambiguous stance demanding the conclusion of hostilities and the establishment of a credible, lasting peace.
Bilateral Meeting with Counterpart Andrii Sybiha
Prior to this engagement, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held discussions with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv. During the talks, the Indian side reiterated its consistent position that contemporary times are not suited for war and that solutions cannot be achieved on the battlefield. Emphasizing that every passing day of conflict results in greater loss of life and devastation, the stance underlined that while the primary responsibility for a resolution lies with the involved parties, India remains ready to assist in any possible capacity.
