A comprehensive infrastructure push is underway in Ahmedabad to decongest traffic arteries and upgrade public amenities across the city. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will present urban development projects worth Rs 583.9 crore under the ‘Seva, Sankalp and Samarpan Abhiyan’. The initiative balances immediate solutions with forward-looking urban planning, encompassing the formal dedication of six completed projects valued at Rs 279.8 crore alongside the foundation laying for six new undertakings estimated at Rs 304.1 crore.
Major Flyovers to Ease Key Chokepoints
To tackle severe vehicular congestion at critical transit junctions, two new four-lane overbridges are being opened to motorists. Commuters will gain access to the four-lane Vadaj Junction flyover, erected at an expenditure of Rs 127.9 crore, aimed at untangling bottlenecks at one of the city's busiest surface crossings. Complementing this is the four-lane Makarba Railway Overbridge (ROB) along the Ahmedabad-Botad railway corridor, constructed at a cost of Rs 98.6 crore. This railway flyover eliminates commuter wait times at the level crossing, ensuring uninterrupted traffic movement between adjoining neighborhoods.
Housing Allocations and Slum Redevelopment Milestones
Social welfare and rehabilitation form a core pillar of the newly inaugurated infrastructure portfolio. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, 329 houses developed for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category in Thaltej are ready for handover. Additionally, urban renewal efforts in Shahibaug will see 108 residential units and 46 commercial shops distributed to beneficiaries as part of the ‘Pakhaji No Kuvo’ slum redevelopment initiative, integrating vulnerable households into formal civic spaces.
Modern Fleet Injected into Disaster Management Fleet
Civic emergency readiness and disaster relief capabilities are being upgraded with specialized assets. The municipal response infrastructure is adding 15 dedicated first-response vehicles acquired at an outlay of Rs 19.7 crore to bolster ground-level rescue operations during calamities. For water rescue operations and high-water emergencies, a contingent of 10 modern motorized boats procured for Rs 3.4 crore is being integrated into the disaster response inventory.
Upcoming Works Across Roads, Drainage, and Clean Transit
Groundwork will also commence on half a dozen civic modernization projects across eastern and western sectors of the city. A localized road connectivity network will be built at Ramapir No Tekro with an investment of Rs 72.9 crore. Drainage overhauls include rebuilding 1,800mm sewer trunk lines in Amraiwadi and along the stretch linking Nagarvel Hanuman Temple with Guruji Bridge, accompanied by new drainage pumping stations at Vatva and Navana. Sustainable transit infrastructure is receiving a boost through AMTS/BRTS electric bus charging hubs at Nikol and Kathwada, an EV charging facility near SP Ring Road, and a new bus depot and terminus at Tragad. On the cultural front, foundation stones will be placed for a tourism temple circuit along the eastern bank of the Sabarmati.
