During a routine roadside inspection, police intercepted a 14-year-old Class 8 student operating a motorcycle on busy public roads. The teenager was riding without wearing a mandatory protective helmet and had fitted an unauthorised siren on the two-wheeler. Finding an array of legal breaches, enforcement officers confiscated the vehicle on the spot and handed down a hefty compound fine of Rs 31,000.
Interception Near Parshuram Chowk During Routine Inspection
The incident took place in the Sector-14 locality of Panchkula, where a dedicated traffic checking team had set up a perimeter near Parshuram Chowk to monitor passing vehicles. During the operation, officers noticed a young boy maneuvering a motorcycle and signaled him to pull over for verification. A subsequent inquiry established that the rider was merely 14 years old and currently enrolled in the eighth grade.
DCP Crime and Traffic Amrender Singh stated that the team was carrying out vehicular checks on Wednesday when they flagged down the 14-year-old student. The boy was riding without protective headgear, and the bike was found fitted with an illegal siren that violated noise and vehicle modification norms. As officers examined the setup further, several other infractions under traffic safety guidelines came to light. Given the seriousness of the violations, the police issued a cumulative challan of Rs 31,000 and impounded the motorcycle.
Police Commissioner Warns Guardians Against Underage Driving
Following the seizure, Panchkula Police issued a stern advisory directing parents and guardians not to allow children below 18 years of age behind the wheel without a valid driving licence. Emphasising the severe risks involved, Police Commissioner Pankaj Nain pointed out that granting minors access to motor vehicles endangers their own lives and jeopardises the physical safety of other commuters sharing the road.
Pankaj Nain warned that stern punitive measures will continue against individuals using illegal sirens or creating public nuisances on roadways. Authorities noted that underage motorists lack the maturity and training necessary to handle unexpected situations in traffic, making them prone to severe collisions. Vehicle owners and parents who willingly hand over vehicle keys to underage children risk facing strict legal repercussions alongside heavy monetary penalties.
